Kasbah Library

PUBLIC, Competition

The brief called for a contemporary interpretation of the library type, while creating an architectural language that was both novel and referential to surrounding heritage (in this case local ‘Kasba towers’). The main conceptual drive was an innovative division between public areas and BOH areas.

By maximising the utility of the towers as structure, passive ventilation and storage, we freed up the majority of the floor plate as a transparent, continuous public space. The south west facade utilized a modular screen that provided both solar shading and acted as an acoustic barrier.
