‘Solveggen’ is a Norwegian word that literally translates to "the sun wall" or "sun-facing wall"

Rather than the wall itself, it implies the warm, sheltered place next to it where one would naturally gather to soak up the sun.

Studio Solveggen is an architectural practise established in Oslo, Norway by Konrad Holtsmark.

Our philosophy is simple - architecture is what translates a landscape into a home. Creating a place to live is the art of shaping the natural world around us into a space that allows us to feel embedded in the ground, while allowing us to go about our every-day life.

Konrad Holtsmark studied architecture at UCL and Harvard University, with a Fulbright Flagship Scholarship and Aker Scholarship.

He has an international professional experience from having worked at RSH+P and Grimshaw Architects in London, KPF in New York, Snohetta in Oslo, and shorter stints at Kengo Kuma Architects and Sou Fujimoto Architects in Tokyo. He has worked on a range of scale, from scyscrapers in Dongguan China to exhibition design for the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway.

He previously taught architecture at Syracuse University School of Architecture, and has given lectures and served as a guest critic at Harvard University GSD, Yale School of Architecture and Wentworth School of Architecture & Design.
